advanced high-temperature air combustion technology

( HiCOT )
2002 Revised Version

Advantages of advanced high-temperature air combustion technology are numerous

As industrial societies step into the technology-intensive 21st century, the belief is widespread that conventional combustion technologies have reached the limit of their ability to achieve the further comprehensive innovations required to meet the current and future performance-enhancement needs of industry__ saving energy, production and process cost reduction through downsizing of equipment, and reduction of pollutants in combustion processes are several examples.
In contrast, high-temperature air combustion__combustion utilizing air preheated by recovered exhaust heat to temperatures of 800° C and higher__holds great potential for realizing the energy-efficient and ecologically beneficial combustion systems of the future.
Compared with conventional combustion, high-temperature air combustion technology offers the following advantages:
(1) High energy efficiency (substantial reduction of CO2)
(2) Low NOx emission in spite of high-temperature air
(3) Uniform temperature distribution in combustion chamber
(4) Low noise in combustion
(5) Downsizing of equipment (cost reduction due to compact design)
